Throughout the impressionable school-age years, there are a few key areas in which we can demonstrate good, Godly character to our children.

Reflecting on the past is an important part of preparing for the future. With 2019 rolling and school back in session, it’s important to take a moment to focus on what we learned in our most recent season, whether it was full of joy or maybe more difficult.

With that in mind, let’s take a look back at the verses we shared throughout December, viewing these through a fresh lens and how they can encourage us while entering into the new year.

Happy New Year, Kanakuk Family! Welcome to 2019—can you believe it’s already here?

Seasons. With each new season comes new opportunities, new tasks and new challenges. The change of seasons can be exciting; filled with anticipation and hope for what’s to come. But the change of seasons can also bring feelings of anxiety as we await the unknown of what’s ahead. As one year winds down a new year waits in the shadows, what is your hope for 2019?

How often do we let fear control our lives? Fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of the unknown? As humans, it’s practically impossible to live and never experience some form of fear, especially when the world throws new challenges our way every single day.

Each day in life is a blank slate, waiting for us to write new moments and watch our life stories unfold. And even though the newness of each day is fresh and sweet, it also brings uncertainty. No matter how much we plan and prepare, things can change in an instant, redirecting our paths in ways we couldn’t have imagined.

Characters of Courage: Esther

Courage. When it comes to characters who are constantly courageous, superheroes are the quickest to come to mind. In movies and on TV, these heroes never seem afraid to do whatever it takes to save the day. Superheros are fearless in the face of danger, because they’re confident in their power. They don’t have to be afraid, because they know they have the strength to rise to any challenge.

Imagine this: you’re at a theme park with friends, preparing to step aboard your favorite roller coaster. It’s the one that begins with stomach-wrenching drop and races through multiple flips, twists and turns. In those few moments (maybe even seconds!) on the ride, your entire being is surrendered to where the coaster takes you. You give up control and enjoy the freedom of flying through the air, following the coaster’s set path.
