Imagine a gumball machine filled to the brim with colorful candy. With just a bit of pocket change, you can fill up on vibrantly colored candy, but with time, the gumball machine empties out and the gum loses its flavor. Upon first glance, that machine may have looked completely full, but really it had many empty spaces and was easily poured out.
If you’ve conquered a high ropes course at Kamp, you know the feeling of securing your harness and attaching yourself to the rope, ready to summit. The harness is snug around you and there are two carabiners in place as a reminder that you are securely fastened and ready to fly!
Still, it can be easy to let fear take hold while we’re going through the course. We know that in a matter of minutes we will return safely to the ground, but often, our legs still tremble and hearts still race in the process. Do you ever feel that way in your faith? God’s word says:
“Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
Our Father assures us that we can trust Him and that we don’t have to look around us and begin to shake with fear for whatever may come our way. He promises to uphold us in His own hand. He promises that He is near and that His love never fails!
As we walk through life, change is inevitable: new jobs, new cities, new schools, or new friends. Many things change, but one thing is surely constant. In an ever-changing life full of good days and bad days, the love of Jesus remains overwhelmingly faithful. He wants to be with us and love us on these good days and bad days.
This concept of unwavering love and faithfulness can seem unfamiliar to us, since we as human have tendencies to stray from our word or fall short of expectations. It can be hard to wrap our minds around the perfect beauty of God’s loyalty to us, but in the Psalms we read that His love is “abounding!”
“The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in loving kindness.”
Today we can live in the truth that His love is abounding for us. (Read that again!) His love for us is not based upon what we “do for Him” or our attempts to look like a “good person.” Instead, it is an extravagant gift to us made possible by Jesus’ death and resurrection. Every single day, the God who created the universe pursues a relationship with us. What a humbling truth!
If we ever feel like we’ve failed God or strayed too far from Him, take heart and celebrate this today: We may fail, but God’s love for us does not!
“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8: 35-39
In some ways, life is a lot like a ropes course. We will be much more equipped for the challenges that come our way if we can trust that we are secure and ultimately victorious in Christ. Rest assured, we are not alone in this journey! God’s love and faithfulness are constant companions every step of the way.
Question: What area of your life can you release control to God and let His love in, so that you can freely enjoy your current season of life (or stage of the ropes course!)?
Challenge: Write these verses of love on a note for your mirror, your car, or your desk to remind yourself that no matter what comes each day, you can trust that His love never fails.
