As the school year winds down, finals, projects and class assignments are in full swing. It’s easy to become stressed or anxious, but there’s really no need! No matter the weight we feel from our responsibilities in the current moment, we as Christians can always find comfort in the fact that we have the Creator of the universe on our side, never failing or forsaking us, even in times of stress.
In Philippians 4:6-7, Paul says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
What a comforting and encouraging verse! Feelings of peace can be rare when we are stressed with all that’s going on in our lives at any given moment. But, if we turn to God in prayer with all of our problems and worries, entrusting them to our all-powerful Lord, He will grant us peace, even during life’s fiercest storms.
So, how do we petition for peace in times of worry? First, we must approach God with a humble and thankful heart. Then, our job is to simply tell Him our struggles, like we would to a best friend. He cares about each and every one of our problems and anxieties, no matter how big or small we think they are. Have you ever wondered what things are worthy of bringing to God in prayer? There’s a simple answer: everything.
When we trust God with the things going on in our lives, He will grant us the peace of mind to continue doing His work without growing weary and losing heart. Paul encourages us in Galatians 6:9, “Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.” When our immediate reaction to stress becomes looking to our Lord, we sow seeds of trust that He will reward in the future.
In addition to the stress of finals, it’s also easy to become distracted by the idea of Kamp and the freedom of summer just around the corner. But, Proverbs 4:25 tell us, “Let your eyes look directly ahead and let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you.” An important part of receiving God’s perfect peace is staying focused on Him and the tasks before you. Diving into His Word daily and meeting him in prayer keeps our minds focused on Him and helps us dwell in the encompassing peace of our Heavenly Father. As we read in Isaiah 26:3, “The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, Because he trusts in You.”
As life gets busy during this time of transition to summer, don’t forget to turn to God with every stress and worry. His loving arms and listening ears are gateways to perfect peace that will transcend any difficult situation.
