Wow! It’s hard to believe we are already one week into August! The start of this new month brings the end of everyone’s favorite time of year: Kamp season. How can it possibly be the very last day of Kamp?
More than any other month of the year, February focuses on love. With all the pink and red decorations, heart-shaped candies and sweet greeting cards, the word love can easily become saturated in our minds, sometimes losing the true, full meaning the word has for us as Christians.
As we head deeper into February, it’s the perfect time to conclude our “Love Is…” series that began in the fall. Over the course of these posts, we have taken a glimpse at what it looks like to love as Jesus does, including a look at how difficult it can often be to love with truth and intention. Today, we want to discuss how God’s love for us is perfect, unfailing, powerful, and larger than we can even imagine. Paul tells us these things in 1 Corinthians 13:8.
Absolutely nothing can stand in the way of the unsurpassable love that God has for his children— that’s us! Things of this world will fail, but God’s love never will. Paul tells us:
"Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away."
1 Corinthians 13:8
How often do we stop and consider the awesome power and sovereignty of our God? The God who reigns for all of eternity? Even more unfathomable: this unfailing God calls us his children. John tells us this: “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12). As believers, God invites us into His family, and his endless love and grace are ours forever— here on Earth and in eternity.
In the same way that God’s love for us can never fail, it is also the only thing that can truly satisfy our hearts. Nothing else in this world can come close to the love that God has for His children. 1 John 2:15 says, “ Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” This verse is a simple and powerful reminder that the things of this world are inadequate at filling the true desires of our hearts— only a relationship with our heavenly Father can do that. Even as the struggles of worldly life can begin to wear us down, we must strive to keep our Father’s love at the forefront of our minds and hearts. By spending time in God’s Word and in prayer with Him, we continuously seek peace and love from God alone, as He will always be the only thing that truly satisfies our souls.
Not only does the Lord tell us about how much He loves us in His Word, but he proved it when He sacrificed His only Son and offered us eternal life with Him. By putting our faith in Him, we accept this selfless, perfect gift that He offers to us. John 3:16 says it best: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
Kanakuk Family, let’s commit to reminding ourselves daily that we have a father in Heaven who loves us in an overwhelming, unfailing, incredible, all-satisfying way. Then, let’s show that same love to others!
