The Power of a God-Sized Prayer

We often hear people say “Follow your dreams!” or Dream big!” Although there are encouraging statements, it can often be scary to truly chase our biggest dreams, since there is always the possibility of those dreams not coming true.

Do you know what can seem even scarier? Praying as big as our dreams.

When we get nervous to pray, remember that our biggest dreamstimes 10are still smaller than the plans God has for us. As His beloved children, God knows what is best for us through to His good and perfect will.

For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.

Jeremiah 29:11

Is there something that you have been afraid to pray for? Something that seems too big or too out of reach? Whatever the reason is that you have not prayed for your dream, do not fear.

No prayer request is too big or too small. Whether we are praying for a big test coming up, healing for a sick family member, forgiveness to fix a friendship, or a million other things, God knows our desires and our heart. He wants to hear what we have to say.

Keeping the weight of those unspoken prayers on our shoulders can leave us feeling stressed and tired, weighed down from bottled up emotions and the fight for control. It’s important for us to let God take those feelings of anger, stress, and sadness and comfort us with His peace. No matter what we are facing, the Lord is ready and waiting to walk through it with us.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30

Fear of disappointment and letting go of our control can keep us from praying and asking God for guidance and help. It is easy to believe that bad things will happen if things do not go according to our dreams and plans.

If the Lord does not answer our prayers the way we expect, the easy response is to be frustrated. We shouldn’t be! That “no”not getting into a certain college, ending a relationship, or getting a bad grade in a classcould be the opening to something even greater that we could never have dreamed for ourselves. All in all, God’s timing is perfect, even if it doesn’t align with our own.

Whether the answer is “yes” or “no,” remember that God wants what is best for us, and He can use both the good and trying times to strengthen and shape us into who we are meant to be.

When you feel afraid to pray, as if what you want is “too big for God,” we encourage you to take a step back and know that your life is in God’s hands, in God’s control. Hope in God is far greater than keeping ourselves from the disappointment of a “no” or a “not yet.” We can rest in certain hope and excitement for what God has in store for us, because He loves all of his Children more than we can imagine.

“Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Today, we encourage you not to let your biggest dreams slip away because of fear. Take them to the Lord through even bigger prayer. His plans, power, and love are far bigger than you know, and He is the best listener you will ever find.
