Prayer: In Waiting

Our lives are full of changing seasons. In terms of weather and personal growth, life is a series of highs and lows, mountaintops and valleys. Seasons are especially distinguishable here at Kamp, because summer is BY FAR our most favorite time of the year!

For us as individuals, some seasons are easier and more carefree than others. On the other hand, certain seasons can seem to drag on, filling us with questions of “will it be like this forever?” In these seasons, we may feel like we are waiting more than we are moving, and THAT IS OK.

The Lord uses these seasons of waiting to cultivate our patience and deeply and intentionally grow our faith in Him. Ultimately, His plan has the power to take us to heights we never saw imaginable. But, he never promised that there wouldn’t be any doubt, uncertainty or waiting along the way.

We take hope in the fact that, in the seasons of waiting, we can bring our prayers to the Lord, for He desperately wants to hear from us. Even if His answer is not immediate, He hears our prayers, the praises and the cries for help. He will be faithful to work through our prayers in His perfect time.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4: 6-7

As we wait in prayer, we can rest in the hope and peace that the Lord is in control, and He has a plan  and not only a plan, a good, perfect, holy and gracious plan to grow us, never to hurt us.

Hope is not wishing that something will happen, it is the certainty that God protects us and leads us down the path He has set for us. We can have a life full of joy because the hope of the Lord is our steadfast foundation.

In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice; In the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch.

Psalm 5:3

By regularly reading God’s Word and lifting up our prayers, we can train our ears to better hear the Father’s voice. Waiting faithfully for his direction and help becomes easier when we remember that He hears us and loves us more than we can imagine.

But now, O Lord, You are our Father, We are the clay, and You our potter; And all of us are the work of Your hand.

Isaiah 64:8

Just as a potter forms clay to make beautiful pottery, the Lord forms us and our faith through our prayers. Waiting is not the absence of motion or action in our lives. Rather, seasons of waiting make time for God to mold and form us into the men and women of God that He created us to be.

In these seasons of waiting, we can continue to pray, listen for His voice and know that His plans for us are always for our good.
