It’s hard to believe that Summer 2017 has come to an end! We are so grateful for all that the Lord has done at Kamp this year.
At Kanakuk, rain isn’t just rain - it’s liquid sunshine! We don’t see the rain as a reason to stop fun, but like all opportunities at Kamp, it’s a reason for us to have MORE fun.
The weather in may not always be predictable, but we’re always prepared and ready to keep the adventure going . If the conditions are mild, Kampers will grab their rain jackets and the outside activities will continue as planned. However, if the weather is at all questionable, Kampers and staff will head inside and carry on with the day’s fun indoors.
So, what happens when it rains at Kanakuk? At the first sign of rain, our staff begins to prepare for activities to be moved indoors. Our mission is to keep Kampers engaged, active, and having a blast at all times, and we accomplish this with some of the most outrageous indoor fun you’ve ever heard of.
We are big fans of Kamper talent shows and counselor dance-offs. You can head to the dining hall for a round of bingo or learn how to do the two-step at the K-Dome. We also have games like Captain My Captain and our own Kanakuk version of Let's Make a Deal, Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune. No matter the Kamp, no matter the day, no matter the weather - the fun truly never stops at Kanakuk.
We like to take this attitude with us wherever we go, because even though it’s easy to be discouraged when things in life don’t go as planned, the right attitude can go a long way despite any storm you are facing. Proverbs 17:22 says, “A joyful heart is good medicine,
but a broken spirit dries up the bones.” This verse points to the necessity of finding joy in every situation, because approaching unfavorable circumstances with negativity will create a broken spirit that lasts far beyond when the rain stops. A thankful, positive attitude is how Jesus wants us to handle life’s storms and helps lighten our load, whether that’s rain at camp or any other bump in your personal journey.
Not just at Kanakuk, but in life, there are endless opportunities for fun, even if it’s not what we had originally planned! After all, rain or shine, you’re still with your best friends at the most wonderful place on Earth, and that is something to always have a joyful heart about!
Be the sunshine to those around you, especially on life’s rainy days.
