This year at Kanakuk, our Kamp theme is “I’m Third.” We choose a theme each year to be a catalyst to set the tone for the entire summer. The phrase “I’m Third” is a familiar saying around Kamp as our Kampers and families learn each summer exactly how to live it out.
This model: God First, Others Second, and I’m Third comes from God’s word directly out of the Gospel of Matthew.
“And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” Matthew 22:37-39
These verses in the book of Matthew are so important to pay attention to as believers in Christ. They are direct commandments from Jesus to His people. “I’m Third” has always been one of the most important values we hold at Kanakuk. We are continually living for God first and then serving others in everything we do.
It’s Term 2 at K-Kountry and we have already learned so much about being I’m Third and what it means to serve God and others. As we look onto the rest of the summer, we challenge you to start living out “I’m Third” every day.
