II Timothy

This summer we had one of the greatest bible studies ever for our Kounselors. It is said some of the most powerful words that a person can speak are their last words. The words in II Timothy are the last from a dying man, named Paul. So as Paul was about to die, he passes the baton of faith to his friend Timothy, through 4 very action packed chapters.

In chapter 1, Paul speaks specifically to the ENTRUSTED, telling us to to have a clear conscience, fan the flame of our faith, that God did not give us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind; and then he tells us to be unashamed of our faith.

Then, in chapter 2, he tells us to ENTRUST to faithful men who inturn would be able to entrust into others. So the progression goes like this: we the entrusted entrust to others so that they may entrust to others. Wow, now we understand what we are to do with what God gave us. Entrust to others, the Word of God. We need to know how to handle accurately the word of truth and by doing so we will be useful to the Master, prepared for every good work. The reason we want to be able to do this is because in chapter 3, END TIMES ARE COMING!

Paul says that in the end times, men will be lovers of self, money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, and the list that he gives sounds just like our world today, very selfish and "me" centered. Paul says, "However, continue in the things that you have learned from the word of God and that you have been convinced of what you know through the scriptures." A capstone verse is 2 Timothy 3:16 "for all scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped, for every good work."

So, let me recap. The entrusted entrust because the end times are coming and now chapter 4 instructs us to ENCOURAGE. We are to encourage, preach the word; and to be ready in season and out of season to reprove, rebuke, and exhort with great patience and instruction. We have got to give sound doctrine to a world that just wants to have their ears tickled rather than listen to the truth. When it's all said and done we want it to be said of our life that, I have fought the good fight, finished the course, and kept the faith. I have done all of this because there is an eternal reward waiting for me in Heaven.

What a great summer it has been studing II Timothy, where we, the entrusted have to entrust to others the word of God, so that the end times we are living in we don't lose heart. Instead, we live encouraged that when we leave this earth its all good! But until we leave, we have got to get busy preaching the word because it is inspired by God! We are ALL IN...how about you???
