Each summer, a theme is chosen for all of the Kanakuk Kamps for the whole summer. This year, the theme is SHINE! It's taken from 1 John 1:5-7, which says, "This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin."
From this verse, we learn that God is light. We are called to be imitators of God, so as we reflect him, we SHINE his light and his love!
Joe White, the president of Kanakuk, created an acronym using the word S-H-I-N-E to remind Kampers of the purpose behind it.
S: Spirit (We must be filled with the Holy Spirit in order to reflect God’s light and love.)
H: Happy (Kamp is the happiest place on earth! When we are reflecting God’s light, we are filled with his joy.)
I: Identity (Our identity can only be found in God.)
N: Now (We can shine God’s light right here and now—we don’t have to wait!)
E: Eternal (The decisions made here at Kamp have eternal significance.)
It is such an amazing experience to be able to watch Kampers shine bright with the love and joy of Jesus! Their time at K-Seven is designed to equip and train them to be able to reflect the love of God when they return home!
