Please let me introduce our Term 5 Health Center staff.
Our K-West physician is Dr. Kevin Barnett. He is spending this week at Kamp with his wife Sara and daughter Taylor. The Barnett family is from Caseyville, IL. They have two other daughters, Paige and Kendall, who are Kampers at K-Kountry this term. This is Dr. Barnett's second year to serve as the Kamp Doctor, but there is a long history of Kanakuk with his wife. Sara was a Kamper for nine years and even worked as a counselor at K-Kountry. Thus, it was only natural that all of the Barnett girls would be Kiowas like their mom!
I asked Dr. Barnett why he enjoys coming to Kamp, he said that he likes working with the kids. He appreciates the kindness of Kanakuk staff and Kampers and the fact that people say thank you. In their free time, Dr. Barnett enjoys golf and Sara does some photography, plus she has gone back to school. They are also very involved with their daughters' activities - dance, swim team and dad is hopeful that the girls will one day like golf! What a fun family to have at K-West this week.
Also in our Health Center we have three incredible ladies who are taking care of the needs of the Kampers.
Teri Shiley is one of our K-West nurses. She and husband Scott live in New Lenox, IL. Teri is mom to Ryan (24), her two step-kids, Steven (24) and Amanda (21), and Jack (13). This is Teri's fourth year to serve at Kanakuk. She has worked at nearly every health center at Kamp with experience at KW, K1 Boys and Girls, K7 and K2. For Teri, Kanakuk is a great way to serve and a great ministry because she enjoys taking care of the Kampers. Teri works as a school nurse at a K-8th grade school and also works part-time as a dermatology nurse. I asked Teri about her hobbies and she said that lots of her time is spent involved in her kids' activities. This year she helped out as the team coordinator for her son Jack's lacrosse team.
Sweet Tricia O'Boyle is our nurse helper this term. She is from Liberty, MO. Tricia is married to Bill and they have three kids: Jordan (19), James (17) and Jalen (11). Both Tricia and her husband Bill are involved in the school system in Liberty. The O'Boyle family found out about Kanakuk from friends almost ten years ago and Tricia has served as a nurse helper for the past nine summers. She spent four years at K-Seven and the last five at K-West. For Tricia, she loves the investment that Kanakuk is in the life of Kampers...including her own kids. She has watched how her son's faith has deepened and how he has grown from his time at Kamp. Tricia loves to work with special needs kids and volunteers each summer at Camp Barnabas.
Our other K-West nurse is Beth Kisling. Beth is from Prairie Village, KS. She is married to husband, Jeffrey and they have three kids, Megan (24), Jacob (18) and Ryan (14). Beth works at Crossroads Hospice and her role is Pain and Symptom Management. This is Beth's second year as a Kamp nurse. Ask Beth why she loves Kanakuk and she lights up! She said that this is the best place on Earth. She feels like Kanakuk has been an investment in her kids' spiritual growth and their well being. She can't imagine sending them anywhere else. Beth loves being outdoors. She enjoys traveling, likes to kayak and was recently the team captain for the Backyard Ballers, a Rec League kickball team.
Thank you to the Barnett family, Teri, Tricia and Beth for serving at K-West this week!
