Welcome to K-West, where we love a good ole' hoedown. Each year K-West hosts a Western Party complete with two-stepping, root beer and watermelon. This year the theme is Tom Sawyer's State Fair over Lampe and it feels like a small town fair.
To start off the night, the Kampers feast on a delicious dinner of chicken tenders, cheesy potato casserole, fried okra, salad and apple cobbler for dessert. Following dinner, Kampers make a quick return to their cabins to brush their teeth and then meet at the flag. They are treated to a two-steppin' lesson and then the Kuks escort the Komos to the party. This is perhaps my favorite part of the party as the Kuks and the Komos walk arm in arm down to the dance.
As the Kampers arrive at the party, they can join the fun on the dance floor and when they get tired they can take a break on the hay bales surrounding the dance floor and stage. Dancing isn't the only activity at this State Fair though! Kampers can try their arm at the dunking booth or stop at the photo op to have their picture taken as a cabin. The fair also gives kids a chance to catch a pig inside a small pen.
With all that dancing, the Kampers are likely to be thirsty! No worries, our K-West dock daddies are serving out ice cold root beer and we have watermelon as a snack. By the end of the evening the Kampers are usually sweaty but are smiling great big.
Lots of dancing tonight!
Here are some of our K-West staff who lead the dancing from center stage!
We had a mighty fine time tonight!
