What It Means to Be Third

As you drive down Main Street at K-West, you’ll notice a banner that says, “Welcome to K-West, where ‘I Am Third’ is a way of Life.”  You might be thinking to yourself, “What does that mean?”

For decades Kanakuk has been sharing this principle with every Kamper that has walked through our gates: “God First, Other’s Second, and I’m Third.” We take every opportunity to show Kampers how they can live out this principle at Kamp and at home.

Each term at K-West we have several opportunities to hear from our good friend and neighbor, Joe White.  Joe speaks on the topics of creation, purity, and “I’m Third.” For the “I’m Third” talk, Joe give the history behind the motto and practical ways Kampers can live it out at home.

Living the “I’m Third” life out at Kamp and at home is a huge honor and responsibility. Each term at Kamp we have the opportunity to recognize four Kampers for living “I’m Third.” The “I’m Third” award is the highest honor we can bestow on a Kamper.
