The Ropes Course
Throughout a term at K-West, from the moment Kampers step foot inside the gates, there is a question that forms on the tips of their tongues that is asked over and over again to anyone who will listen: when are we going to the ropes course?
K-West’s high elements area is designed to encourage kids to embrace the idea of faith and surrendering control, coaxing them to step out into the unknown and trust that they are going to be taken care of regardless. In doing this, the ropes course thereby serves as a parallel to the every day life of a believer outside of Kamp.
As Christians, we are often times confronted with difficult and frightening situations whose outcomes remain largely opaque. When facing such circumstances, we can respond in one of two ways: we can hold tightly to the things we think we need and attempt to manufacture comfort in our own lives or we can surrender our desire for security and allow the Lord to guide us as we embark on a new journey towards the unknown. At K-West, we highly recommend the second response.
We know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Lord will show up for us if we jump. In fact, He tells us how faithful He is in Isaiah 41:10: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” It is our desire to instill that same confidence in the Lord’s sovereignty in each and every Kamper who experiences K-West this Summer. And what better way to do that than through a series of intensely fun obstacles that force you to trust outside of yourself?
