What you need to know

If you’re looking for more information about the application and interview process for summer staff positions at Kanakuk and KAA, you’ll find everything you need to know below. If you have questions about summer staff positions, take a look at our Questions page or contact our Summer Staff Coordinator, Lashell Stearns, at 417.266.3221 or staff@kanakuk.com. We can’t wait to hear from you!

APPLICATION PROCESS

To be considered for a summer staff position, every applicant must complete an online application AND a personal interview with one of our Directors by February 1st. All applications and interviews must be completed by February 1st.

To arrange a personal interview, please sign-up at one of our interview locations at a campus near you.

A personal, face-to-face interview is our first choice, but if Kanakuk does not come close to your school or has already been to your campus, then we will review your application and work to set up a phone or video interview at a later date.

Kanakuk will be hiring summer staff positions starting in December and lasting through early March. Applicants will receive an employment offer of no-hire notification by March 15th.

LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT

Lengths of employment vary from Kamp to Kamp, but staff are typically hired for either the first half of the summer or second half of the summer depending on availability. All staff are required to attend Staff Training in May.

COMPENSATION & TIME OFF

All of our summer staff positions are paid positions. Compensation is based off year in school and Kamp experience. A first year staff member will earn between $220 and $240 per week, plus $100 for Staff Training. Room and board is provided for all staff. Staff will also receive one day or two nights off each week. However, the real value of serving at Kamp cannot be measured in dollars.

VOLUNTEER

Each summer, a portion of our staff volunteer their time to help fulfill our mission and further our work in ministry. Money saved through these volunteers help provide scholarships to underprivileged Kampers as well as help fund various other ministries around the world. If you are interested in volunteering your time this summer, please ask one of our Director’s during the interview for more details.

TRANSPORTATION

Staff are responsible for their own transportation to and from Kamp. Many staff carpool together from different parts of the country. If you are flying, there are Kamp shuttle services available to and from the airport. For more information, e-mail transportation@kanakuk.com or call (417) 266-3100.
