Medical Staff | Kanakuk Kamps

Kanakuk Kamps Health Center

Every Kanakuk Kamp Health Center is staffed with an on-site physician, at least two registered nurses, and a health center helper. We also have an athletic trainer or physical therapist available at K-2 to provide therapy for sport related injuries.

For more information, or if you have any questions regarding any of these Health Service opportunities, contact Rebecca Duncan at 417-266-3208 or email healthservices@kanakuk.com.

Our Health Centers function as first aid stations where we are able to quickly assess, diagnose, and provide treatment for common illnesses and injuries. We also utilize our local Emergency Department and specialty physicians for more serious situations. We strive to communicate well with our Kamp parents to keep them informed and up to date on their Kampers condition.

PHYSICIAN

Kamp Physicians are a vital part of this ministry! Physicians volunteer for a one or two week term. The state of Missouri allows a licensed out-of-state physician to volunteer for up to two weeks without obtaining a Missouri medical license. Kanakuk provides medical malpractice coverage for the health service staff during their scheduled term. The Kamp Physician provides service for a morning and evening clinic session and is on call for emergent happenings.

Kamp Physicians are encouraged to bring their spouse and children with them to enjoy the Kamp amenities and programs together as a family. Physician’s children are not to be in the Health Center during clinic times and must be supervised at all times. Lodging and meals are provided along with a golf cart to navigate the Kamp property!

Our physician housing is conveniently located on Kamp property and is fully furnished with linens and towels. It is air-conditioned too! The cabin has a king sized bed (K-Kountry has a queen) and 1-2 bunk beds.  A mini-refrigerator, coffee pot, and microwave are provided.

NURSE

If you are a registered nurse who is kind, energetic, hardworking, flexible, kid-loving, and servant hearted, then this is the summer job for YOU! Kamp Nurses are hired by the week and must have a Missouri nurse license (or Multi-state) and current CPR certification. Kamp nurses are responsible for reviewing the medical conditions of current Kampers and staff, administering all medication, providing safe nursing care, maintaining accurate documentation, communicating with Kamp parents and Kamp directors, and collaborating with the Kamp Physician to develop a plan of care for injured or ill Kampers and staff.

Lodging and meals are provided on Kamp property. Our Kamp Nurses and Health Center Helpers live in a staff room located in the Health Center. The Health Center will have three to six women in a room. Twin beds are provided and you will need to bring linens, towels, and toiletries. A refrigerator, coffee pot, and microwave are provided. All meals are provided.

Compensation and License Reimbursement: Please view this chart to see the weekly nurse wage and tuition discount information.  Kanakuk will reimburse up to $120 for expenses incurred to obtain a Missouri professional license which is required for this job.  This form and expense documentation will need to be sent to LaShell.  Reimbursement will be granted once your scheduled session has been worked.

HEALTH CENTER HELPER

Health Center Helpers (HCH) play an important support role on our Health Services team! Our HCH is the HEART of our Health Center as love, compassion, and empathy are provided to our sick and injured Kampers and staff. The HCH is responsible for the cleanliness of the Health Center, loads of laundry, transporting Kampers for off-site medical care, and meeting the needs of injured or ill Kampers and staff that are retained in the Health Center. HCH are hired by the week and typically work one or two week sessions.
